The long awaited and much talked about Equality Act becomes law on 1st October 2010. However, you will be relieved to know that employers obligations will remain largely the same.

The Act will replace all of the existing equality legislation and applies to the protected characteristics of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (ECHR) has more detailed guidance for employers, as well as guidance on the definitions of protected characteristics and there is of course, practical guidance for ELE members in the Managers Toolkits.
